Mountain Bike Setup & Spares
The terrain in Las Alpujarras is very demanding and wear and tear on bikes is common. In order to prevent your holiday coming to a premature end and in the unlikely event that we might not be able to repair your bike, we recommend you have the following and bring some spares too. If required, we also have some spare Coves for you to ride too.
BIKE SPECIFICATION
We recommend a full suspension bike if possible, but a good quality hardtail will fare equally well.....
- Instructions for use
Once loaded, hover the mouse pointer over the bike to display information. - Saddle
- Body spares
Hydration pack, helmet, pads (if you got em, if not we have got some RaceFace pads here for you to borrow at no extra charge - subject to availability), sun glasses, gloves, suncream, small first aid kit, pump, multi-tools etc - Traction
- Traction
You may need 4 or 5 spare inner tubes. Another excellent option is a latex solution and UST tyres. We run 2.35 - 2.5 Dual Ply Maxxis Minion or High Roller tyres which provide excellent traction and use tyre liners to protect against thorns. If you can't run big tyres due to frame restrictions get yourself some DH inner tubes. Some spare spokes are a good idea too. - Anchors
- Anchors
An extra set of pads. If you have discs, organic pads are best here in the dry conditions - Dangly bits
- Dangly bits
Extra chain, rear derailleur hanger (if replaceable), rear derailleur (just in case), spare gear cable and bring some dry chain lube. - Dangly bits
- Seatpost clamp
A quick-release seat clamp is extremely useful for quickly lowering your saddle for steep technical descents and putting it back up for climbs - Stoppers
- The "Stop" button
Set your brake lever biting point close to the bar by adjusting the small 2mm grub screw on the lever. This is tremendously helpful on long descents against arm pump. It also allows one-finger breaking - something we show you how to do while you are here. - Pedals
- "Go" button and cogs
Flat pedals or SPD type are fine. If you are learning to use SPDs do not bring them as they will distract you from concentrating on the trail while you try to clip in. Any chainset is fine, just be ready for a bit of climbing on fireroads and tracks. - Frame
- Steed
We ride the Cove Stiffee/Hustler and Rocky Mountain Slayer/SXCs and have them on offer for you to rent. - Forks
- Springs and things
We do not recommend riding these trails on a rigid bike. The rocky bumpy trails need some cushioning. We recommend 100mm (4") travel forks or more as a guide.
SPARES
We recommend bringing a selection of spares for your bike. We do have a small collection of parts, but they may not be suitable for specific bikes.
