Bubion, Sierra Nevada, Spain
Switchbacks Spain is located in the charming mountain village of Bubion - the very heart of the beautiful region known as Las Alpujarras. The best singletrack in southern Spain is to be found in and around Bubion. Due to our exellent location daily transfers are very short thus avoiding long boring transfers and above all not wasting precious riding time. In real terms this means we will ride stright from the door onto lush singletrack or get shuttled up to descend for the rest of the day.
Situated in Southern Spain on the edge of Sierra Nevada National Park and home of the of the 1999 World MTB Championships, the singletrack trails and descents have been described as some of the best trails in the world by Gee Atherton, DH World Champion 2008.
The riding is characterised by fast burmed descents, rocky chutes and switchbacks, long singletrack downhills and fireroad climbs.
We are open all year round, and if you fancy some snow, Switchbacks Spain offers 'Boarding and Biking' packages from December to April. Alternatively, try out one of our excellent DH Winter Training camps. Please call for details. For non-riding partners there is also the possibility to go horse riding, hiking, paragliding and gorge running.
Climate
The weather in the Sierra Nevada provides perfect conditions for mountain biking all year round. The vast majority (over 90%) of our trails are below 2200m and accessible all year round. During the winter months we ride low down making the most of the dry trails and warmer temperatures. These vary between those in Bubion in the mountains and the much hotter temperatures towards Granada. In the summer we make excusions above 2500m in order to access huge descents and to escape the warmer temperatures at lower levels.

Accommodation
Relax in your own village house, traditional in character and feel but with hot showers, laundry facilities, BBQ and in-house bike storage and workshop. Bedrooms are based on 2/3 sharing while all couples are provided with their own room. All properties have a full kitchen, communal living room and terrace or garden. On arrival you'll find the cupboards and fridge full of food, snacks and cold beer to get you settled in.
Our in-house workshop is fully kitted out with tools, bike stand, track pump and a select supply of spares.
A good selection of bars, restaurants, cash point machines and village shops are all within a 5 minutes walk.
Travel
Switchbacks Spain is served by Malaga airport with a transfer time of 2 hours with no extra charge for airport collection. Just about every airline across Europe flies to Malaga – to name a few BA, Iberia, EasyJet, Monarch, RyanAir, bmiBaby, FlyBe, My Travel, Jet2, Thompson, FlyGlobeSpan and FirstChoice.
Charter flights extra baggage allowances always incur a surcharge. Most range in price between 15 to 30Euros which will NORMALLY take your individual baggage allowance (bike) up to 32kgs and combined baggage weight up to 50kgs giving you more than enough to bring all but the heaviest bike and kit. Please make sure you check your airlines rules on bike carriage before you book your flights though.
